BIG MOMENTS

Take a look back in time to see some of our favorite team athlete moments, there's been so many I am sure we missed several. Please reach out to us to keep an accurate timeline.

1988

Kyle goes to Calgary Olympics

First Stop athlete Kyle Weiche and KMS Alum goes on to ski in the 1988 Calgary Olympics.

Fun Fact: Kyle was a giant slalom specialist and star for many Subaru ads in the late eighties.

1997

Trek Factory Racing Junior Team

Back in the day, First Stop Bike Shop rolled out its very first junior mountain bike team—and they made waves big enough to catch the attention of Trek. Not bad for a crew of local riders just chasing fun (and podiums)!

The original lineup? A who's-who of all-around athletes: Randy Elles, Stefan Hughes, Matt Albertazzi, Brian Albertazzi, and Danny Loman.

Fun Fact:
While none of them went pro on two wheels, they didn’t slow down one bit:

  • Stefan Hughes went on to become a Junior World Ski Champion in Slalom and a 4-year NCAA standout at University of Colorado
  • Danny Loman crushed it as an elite NCAA alpine skier at Bates College
  • Matt Albertazzi took his skills to the pitch as an NCAA soccer player
  • Brian Albertazzi went on to play NCAA Golf and win the Vermont Amateur twice
  • And Randy Elles? He traded bike shorts for tennis whites—playing NJCAA tennis

Turns out the First Stop team wasn’t just building bikers—they were building all-around athletes.

1998

Evan goes to Nagano Olympics

Former First Stop sponsored athlete Evan Dybvig competes in the 1998 Nagano Olympics in Mogul Skiing. After a US National Championship, multiple top 10 World Cup finishes he suffers a torn ACL leading up to the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics, he skis anyways and leads the US team to some of their best results.

Fun Fact: Evan Dvbig came back East after the 2002 Olympics and managed Whaleback in New Hampshire. Many of the junior athletes he coached went on to become some of the top free skiers in the world.

2005

Megan Hughes NCAA National Slalom Champion

Team Athlete and longtime First Stop fam Megan Hughes qualified for the U.S. Ski Team, where she trained and raced alongside future Olympic icons Julia Mancuso and Lindsey Vonn. 💪

Her dedication and drive on the team earned her a scholarship to Middlebury College, where she went on to win the Slalom Title at the 2005 NCAA National Championships. 🏆

Fun Fact: Megan’s still a Rossi girl at heart—and you can spot her tearing it up in Park City with her husband and three kids. Once a racer, always a ripper.

2005-2006

STEFAN wins us junior slalom championship!

Stefan’s not just fast—he’s U.S. Ski Team fast. During his 2005-2006 run with the team, he snagged the U.S. Junior Slalom and Combined Championships, carving his name into the national spotlight.

His speed on snow earned him a scholarship to the University of Colorado, where he didn’t slow down—becoming a 2-time NCAA All-American. Oh, and if you recognize names like Bode Miller, Ted Ligety, Andrew Weibrecht... yeah, Stefan skied with those guys.😎

Fun Fact: Come meet Stefan at the Killington World Cup after party—just don’t challenge him to a dance off...

2007 & 2008

Max doubles down at USASA Nationals

Big congrats to Team Rider Max Elles for snagging back-to-back Silver Medals at the USASA National Championships in Boardercross! Fast, fearless, and always dialed in, Max brought the heat on back-to-back runs.

And he wasn’t alone—Wyatt Mosher, Will Mercer, and Kyle Anderson (yep, future shop legends in the making) all charged hard to land in the Top 10!

Fun Fact: Think you’ve got the edge? You can still challenge Max at the weekly Ski Bum races. Just be ready—he’s not slowing down anytime soon.

2010

Chelsea Heads to the Vancouver Olympics

We were beyond proud to cheer on Chelsea Marshall as she repped the U.S. at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, sharing the world stage with legends Lindsey Vonn and Julia Mancuso!

Chelsea raced with heart, grit, and zero hesitation—earning a special shoutout from ESPN for the “Most Epic Crash” of the Games. Now that’s what we call going full throttle.

Fun Fact: You can still chase Chelsea around Killington from time-to-time on the hill or at our local mountain bike trails.

2015-2016

Randy Lands on the cover of Ski Vermont

Team Athlete and our very own Brand Director, Randy Elles, took center stage with a full-length feature on Killington powder skiing—and yep, he landed the cover shot of Ski Vermont while doing it! 🤘

But the stoke didn’t stop there—photos of Randy, captured by the talented Justin Cash, went on to be featured in both Powder Magazine and SKI Magazine the following season. Not bad for a local ripper, huh?

2017-2018

Ian Clarke Heads to Worlds!

Team Athlete and First Stop team member Ian Clarke took on the wild world of skimo racing—yup, that’s racing uphillon skis before shredding the descent. Turns out, he was really good at it. Good enough to rep the U.S. at the 2017 World Skimo Championships in Italy! 🇮🇹⛷️

But Ian didn’t stop climbing. That summer, he swapped skis for pedals and raced his road bike across the U.S., Canada, and Europe with the Junior Pro Cycling Team CCB. 🚴‍♂️💨

Fun Fact: Whether it's mountains or miles, Ian's idea of fun is going full send—no matter the sport.

2017

SuperMan? SuperDad!

Team Athlete Mike Barton wins four of the biggest cycling events of the season in New England: Tour of the Battenkill, Pavé Madness, The Vermont Overland, & Green Mountain Stage Race. Since then he's been at the top of the field in nearly every major gravel race around.

Fun fact: Other riders joke that he's the fastest dad with Twin toddlers, jokes on them.

2017-2019

karen 3-peats!

First Stop Board Barn hosts the 1st Annual Make A Wave Paddle Board Race.

Friend of First Stop Karen Dalury beats all the girls and boys. 3 years in a row!

Fun Fact: Karen Dalury is the 3-time champion of the Make A Wave Paddle Board Race.

2018-2019

Ian Beauregard heads to Junior Worlds!

Carving his own path, Team Athlete Ian Beauregard qualified 2nd in Dual Moguls at the 2018 U.S. Freestyle Championships in Waterville Valley, NH—earning himself a ticket to the Junior World Ski Championships in Åre, Sweden. 🇸🇪

Not only did he make waves in Sweden, but Ian has since earned multiple World Cup starts for Team USA—repping the red, white, and blue with serious style.

Fun Fact: Ian is part of the second generation of First Stop/Beauregard athletes. Must be something in the Killington snow.
