The Gold Project is a video project that will take course over the 2009-2010 season. The project is loosely based off of Galin Foley’s lucky acquisition of a USSA Gold Pass thanks to a sweepstakes he happened to sign up for while shooting an event last season. The idea behind the project is to travel as much as possible with a small crew of talented kids and to shoot with the local talent at the resorts we go to. Foley goes on to say “I want to try to get everyone involved who would care to be.”
“I also plan on incorporating other aspects of the sport other than park, such as urban and back country. I plan on taking a couple urban trips and If snow permits I will be putting together an east coast back country segment. At the end of the year I plan on producing a movie that I plan to be available as downloadable copies for a very reasonable price. If the demand is there I will also print DVDs. The goal is for this to be a fun project that everybody can get involved in.”
KILLINGTON, Vt. (Jan. 21, 2010)— First Stop / Board Barn Team Rider Max Elles put himself on the podium twice in as many dates at the United States of America Snowboard Association’s (USASA) Southern Vermont Series SBX races at Bromley Mountain on Monday and Tuesday. Elles, the silver medalist at the USASA Nationals atCopper Mountain in 2009 and a junior at KMS, took home two second place finishes, qualifying him for a return ticket to the USASA Nationals again this season in April at Copper Mountain.
“Max qualifies for USASA Nationals with his two second place finishes, plus his 2009 Nationals result,” said KMS Snowboard Coach Ian Coates. “He had two great days at Bromley and can now set his sights on a podium again at Nationals.”
SVSS is one of the original grassroots snowboarding contest series. Many Olympians and top name pros got it all rolling in the hills of Southern Vermont, riding with friends and getting together for these contests. Elles is ranked second in Southern Vermont BX (border/skiercross) with 1,950 points, 220 points out of first place.
“Max can attribute his success this week for a couple of good reasons,” said Coates. “He prepares his equipment well before the race. Choosing the right wax is key for the day, and Max is the ultimate technician. He also clinched second on Tuesday due to a crafty move into the first berm, edging out two other competitors that were charging hard to gain that spot. After the turn Max set his sights on first but ran out of ground. At the end of the day, Max put together a great run when it counted.”
