Some of them are full of black water. Others have become graveyards for old lawn furniture and rodent carcasses. They are shaped like jelly beans and manufactured by companies named Sunny Side and Champagne. Once upon a time, Fresno was the California Dream. Own a car. Own a house. Own a pool. Everyone wanted it and the wonderful world of credit made it all possible. But now, with the foreclosure monster running wild, the dream is dry. Thousands of pools are festering in the hot Central Valley sun. For most people this is tragic. But for some, it’s an opportunity.
Have you ever skated a pool? Over the last year we’ve been in the process of building a mini ramp within the walls of our very own Board Barn. Who knows maybe some day we’ll open it up to the public so kids like you will have a place to skate in K-Town…
It’s officially summer and we would like to remind you to get out there and surf. Check out this sweet video from Riley Blakeway. Where’s your favorite surf spot?
Catch Portugal. The Man perform a free show at Governor’s Island, NY on July 3rd. Doors open at 6pm, show starts at 8pm. Make sure to get there early as we are sure this will be a packed show!
Here is the first single off of KiD CuDi’s forthcoming sophomore album Man On The Moon II: The Legend Of Mr. Rager has arrived. The title of the Plain Pat-produced song is pronounced “Rev Of Ev,” as in Revolution Of Evolution, which was supposed to be the album’s original subtitle. Man On The Moon II: The Legend Of Mr. Rager is due September 14th. Thanks to Petar Kujundzic and our friends at Hypebeast for the beat.
Last month, pioneering Hip-Hop photographer Martha Cooper debuted her newest publication Name Tagging at the OBEY Pop-Up Shop. I got a chance to check it out and was stoked to learn about Martha Cooper and her love for the little tags that you will see all over New York City. In this interview she talks about her passion for taggin and graffiti both present and past.
Name Tagging is available now through Mark Batty Publisher with a retail price of $12.95 it’s a book most of us can afford. *If you like the looks of Name Taggin you should also check out Going Postal.
What’s your tag?
Send us a photo or scan of your tag to info[at]firststopboardbarn.com. If it’s sweet we’ll feature it on our site and send you a sweet sticker pack! Make sure to include your full name, age, and mailing address.
A huge shout out to the kids on the 2010 Killington Mountain School Snowboard Team. They totally killed it at the 2010 USASA National Championships hosted at Copper Mountain Resort in Colorado. Board Barn Team Riders Max Elles took the Silver Medal in Boardercross and Mitch Heberer took the Bronze Medal in Halfpipe. There were 1,524 competitors and the east coast boys held their own – congrats to both!
